We have detected a membrane proton potential dependent change in the structure of lipid membranes by time resolved neutron scattering (TR-SANS) at the ILL Grenoble (D11, D22, D33) or FRM-2 Garching-Munich (KWS-2) and time resolved optical spectroscopy of pH-indicator dye entrapped liposomes. The change is biological relevant because it apears in the potential range present in bioenergetic systems, e.g. mitochodria (respiration) and plants(photosynthesis). It is a change in lipid structure upon membrane energization. For a preliminary look on our science report page, especially on the ILL reports R12 and R11.
